Booking Your Bridal Alterations Appointment

  • Ensure that you book your fitting alterations appointment as soon as you purchase your dress; ideally, this should be a minimum of 2 to 3 months before your wedding date.

  • If you are not changing weight before your wedding date and you have your dress, alterations can begin even earlier than 2 to 3 months prior.

  • Pregnant brides are an exception to this timeline; we understand that the baby is growing, and we request that the first fitting be scheduled two to three weeks before the wedding date.

  • Note:  if your event occurs during the peak wedding or formal season, from Easter through to the end of October, it is advisable to book slightly earlier.

  • Booking an alterations appointment early is crucial. You can do this on the day you purchase your wedding gown or by contacting the Forever Bridal Stafford store via our Contact Us form on this website, or phoning during business hours.

  • Tuesday to Friday 10am to 5pm or Saturdays 9:30am to 3:30pm
    elephone 31752545 or email foreverbridalsales@gmail.com.

  • Forever Bridal and Formal has a small, skilled alterations team that handles all bridal, bridesmaids, and formal alterations, so it is essential to book appointments early to avoid any stress or rush fees.

  • Alterations appointments with our seamstress are available:
Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 5pm, and alternate Saturdays, 9am to 3:30pm.
If a Saturday appointment is required, please note that our store can be very busy, and your appointment may not be as private as you would like.  We highly recommend weekday alterations appointments when possible.

  • Please contact Forever Bridal if you cannot attend your alterations appointment or need to change your appointment, keeping your wedding date in mind.

Preparation for your Bridal Gown Fitting Alterations Appointment

  • Bring undergarments, shapewear, shoes and accessories to all scheduled alterations appointments to ensure the perfect each time. These must be the same items for every appointment.

  • Bring photos of any unique visions or creative elements for your alterations if redesigning.

  • Bring photos of when you were in your gown and purchased your dress so we can see any suggestions, refinements or elements added made when you purchased your dress.

  • Do not come to your fitting appointment on an empty stomach, you may be standing for over an hour.

  • You should be the weight you will be on your wedding day for the fittings.

  • If you find you are pregnant before your first fitting, you may need to revisit your dress option with one of our trained bridal stylists and move your alterations fitting appointment closer to your wedding date.

First Fitting Bridal Alterations

  • We ask you to bring the correct undergarments/shapewear and shoes at this fitting. Providing these items at the appointment will allow the dress to fall correctly and the hem to move gracefully as you walk.

  • If you have not paid the balance of your dress, you will need to do this at your first fitting, as alterations cannot commence until the dress is paid in full.

  • This initial fitting appointment should take from 30 minutes to almost an hour. You may be standing in your wedding shoes as well as your dress for this amount of time so be prepared.

  • You will meet your Forever Bridal seamstress, an expert on wedding alterations, and will be able to make any recommendations on what should be done to make your dress perfect.  This is when you will also discuss any custom changes like adding bra cups, changing the length of sleeves, necklines, and your dress length.

  • Standard bridal alterations include making the bodice and waist fit your body and adjusting straps, hems, and bustles.

  • She will start pinning and tucking the fabric to your body to match your size.  She will also make notes of the changes required, where and take measurements if needed.  Hems will be marked and a bustle pinned.

  • Discuss any additional possibilities you have envisioned for your dress over and above, getting the fit and length correct.  Adding sleeves or straps, removing or adding embellishments.

  • At this first fitting appointment, your seamstress will be able to tell you if you require more fitting appointments or just booking your pick-up appointment working around your wedding date.

  • Book your next fitting or pick up appointment before leaving.

  • After 60 minutes, an additional charge of $47 per every 30 minutes will be applied to the final invoice.

  • If not quoted earlier, a firm price for your alterations will be quoted and invoiced at this appointment and due for payment at the end of your appointment.

Second Fitting & Potential Pickup

  • At your second fitting, you must bring your undergarments/shapewear and shoes again.

  • The dress would have been steamed to remove any wrinkles and creases before this pick up appointment, and you can try it on one last time to make sure everything if just as it should be.

  • If everything goes according to plan, which it usually does, the dress will fit perfectly and can be taken home at this fitting.

  • This fitting will be shorter than the first and usually lasts no more than 30 minutes.

  • It is recommended to bring a friend or relative so they can learn how to lace up or bustle the dress correctly and see how any clasps and buttons need to be secured.

  • If necessary, minor tweaks to the dress will be made on the spot.

  • Make sure you collect your veil and accessories as well as your dress, at this final pick-up

  • You receive your dress in a breathable opaque garment bag.

  • Please make sure you hang it in a safe place where it will not be prone to stains or accidents.

  • We recommend taking your dress out of the garment bag at least the night before your wedding to let it hang naturally.

Third Fitting (Not usually required)

  • It's rare to need a third fitting, but sometimes additional adjustments are necessary to ensure everything is perfect before the wedding. The final fitting typically takes no more than 30 minutes.

Rush Fee for a Wedding Dress

  • If, for some reason, your wedding dress is brought in on short notice, less than 3 weeks prior before your wedding, an additional rush fee of $100.00 will be added to your invoice.
